Micreos Food safety B.V. and Phage technology are featured in the most recent edition of VMT magazine (edition 2,  february 2018). VMT is the leading magazine in the Netherlands for food professionals, and has been for over 125 years. The edition features a novel tool for food producers against inevitable pathogens, namely phages. It is found that hygiene precautions and HACCP-systems are no longer sufficient to deal with Listeria contaminations. With 2,536 cases of listeriosis alone in the EU in 2016 and considering the high mortality rate, the industry’s need for a smart solution for this worrisome and rising trend is underlined. In the article Dirk de Meester from Micreos Food Safety elaborates on this new technology and the benefits they have to offer. PhageGuard L (PGL) uses phage technology and is mainly being used preemptively in the industry. Other interesting phage-related topics covered are all the potential phage technology has to offer such as its use as an alternative to antibiotics in the fight against antibiotic resistance. Promising developments ligned up for the future.
