Effective STEC phage treatment at the holding pens

The USDA-FSIS has designated STEC serogroups O157, O26, O45, O103, O111, O121, and O145 as adulterants in beef products. PGE Hides+ effectively targets five of these seven FSIS-classified adulterant STEC serogroups on livestock hides —without compromising animal welfare (non-hazardous), affecting equipment integrity (non-corrosive), or requiring water rinsing (non-chemical).

Treatment with PGE Hides+ is implemented at the holding pens – the final preharvest stage, known to be prone to STEC transmission. Spray systems are strategically positioned and tailored to the pen layout, ensuring even distribution across the animal surface to minimize the risk of STEC cross-contamination from hides to processing equipment and meat.
